     John Campbell of Airds was born on 15 March 1767.1 He was the son of John Campbell of Airds and Jane Campbell.1 He married Margaret Maxwell Campbell, daughter of John Campbell of Lochend, on 27 July 1803.1 He died on 7 November 1834 at age 67.2
     John Campbell of Airds gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Argyllshire and Bute Militia.1 In 1804 he claimed the baronetcy of Donald Campbell of Ardnamurchan and Airds, but this claim requires a descent from an illegitimate child to his half-brother.2
