     Hon. Walter Symington Maclay was born on 29 October 1901.1 He was the son of Joseph Paton Maclay, 1st Baron Maclay and Martha Strang.2 He married Dorothy Russell Lennox, daughter of William Lennox, on 26 April 1928.1 He died on 27 April 1964 at age 62.1
     He was educated at Fettes College, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.1 He graduated from St. John's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1925 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He graduated from St. John's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1928 with a Bachelor of Medicine (M.B.)1 He graduated from St. John's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1934 with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.)1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1944.1 He was Medical Senior Commissioner of the Board Control between 1945 and 1960.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal College of Physicians, London (F.R.C.P.) in 1954.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1955.1 He held the office of Honorary Physician to HM Queen Elizabeth II between 1959 and 1964.1 He was Regional Psychiatrist between 1960 and 1964 at Wessex Regional Hospital Board, Wessex, England.1
