     James Gordon Macpherson, 2nd Baron Macpherson of Drumochter was born on 22 January 1924.² He was the son of Thomas Macpherson, 1st Baron Macpherson of Drumochter and Lucy Butcher.² He married, firstly, Dorothy Ruth Coulter, daughter of Reverend Henry Coulter, on 15 April 1947.² He married, secondly, Catherine Bridget MacCarthy, daughter of Dr. Desmond MacCarthy, on 3 March 1975.¹ He died on 7 September 2008 at age 84 at Highview Nursing Home, Inverness, Inverness-shire, Scotland.³

     Dorothy Ruth Coulter usually went by her middle name of Ruth.² From 15 April 1947, her married name became Macpherson. After her marriage, Dorothy Ruth Coulter was styled as Baroness Macpherson of Drumochter on 11 June 1965.
