Rt. Hon. Sir Algernon Edward West was born on 4 April 1832.1 He was the son of Martin John West and Lady Maria Walpole.1 He married Mary Elizabeth Caroline Barrington, daughter of Hon. George Barrington and Lady Caroline Grey, on 12 August 1858. He died on 21 March 1921 at age 88.1
Rt. Hon. Sir Algernon Edward West was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England.2 He was educated at Christ Church College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.2 He was Private Secretary to Gladstone between 1861 and 1894.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.).1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Middlesex.1 He held the office of Chairman of the Board of the Inland Revenue.1 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) on 30 July 1886.1 He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.).1 He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) on 26 June 1902.1 He lived at Wanborough Manor, Wanborough, Surrey, England.1
