Major Douglas Reynolds, V.C.1

     Major Douglas Reynolds, V.C. was born in 1881 at Clifton, Gloucestershire, England.2 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Henry Charles Reynolds and Sarah Eleanor B. Goodwyn.2 He married Marie Doris Petersen, daughter of Sir William Petersen, in 1915 at Epsom, Surrey, England.1,2 He died on 23 February 1916, from wounds recevied in action.2
     He was educated at Cheltenham College, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England.2 He was commissioned in 1900 with the rank of officer, in the service of the Royal Field Artillery.2 He fought in the First World War, where he was severely wounded.2 He was decorated with the award of the Victoria Cross (V.C.) on 16 November 1914.1,2 He gained the rank of Major in the service of the 83rd Brigade, Royal Field Artillery.2

      From 1943, her married name became Ayre. On 20 November 1967 she was granted by Royal Warrant the rank of an earl's daughter.1
