     Raymond de Burgh Money Layard was born on 30 September 1859.1 He was the son of Lt.-Gen. Frederick Peter Layard and Ida Gabrielle Betts.1 He married Isabel Scobell, daughter of Henry Sales Scobell, on 29 December 1892 at British Legation, Tokyo, Japan.1
     He was with H.B.M. Consular Service, Japan in 1881.1
