     Sir Charles Peter Layard was born on 9 December 1806 at Sri Lanka.2 He was the son of Charles Edward Layard and Barbara Bridgetina Mooyaart.1 He married Louisa Anne Edwards, daughter of Lt.-Col. Clement Martin Edwards and Louisa Frances Layard, on 29 March 1834.1 He died on 17 July 1893 at age 86 at 54 Elm Park Road, Chelsea, London, England.2
     He was educated at St. John's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.2 He was with the Ceylon Civil Service in 1830.2 He held the office of Magistrate at Jaffa between 1831 and 1832.2 He was Assistant to the Collector at Colombo between 1832 and 1839.2 He was District Judge of Galle between 1839 and 1840.2 He was District Judge of Trincomalee between 1840 and 1851.2 He was District Judge of Galle between 1850 and 1851.2 He was Government Agent for the Western Provinces between 1851 and 1878.2 He was invested as a Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1875.2 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1876.2 He held the office of M.C.I. Ceylon.2 He lived at 54 Elm Park Road, Chelsea, London, England.2
