Eliza Coats was born on 17 November 1854.1 She was the daughter of Sir Peter Coats and Gloranna McKenzie.2 She married James Louis Alexander Hope, son of Hon. James Hope and Mary Frances Nugent, on 24 April 1884.1 She died on 7 May 1906 at age 51.

Sir Peter Coats was born on 18 July 1808.1 He was the son of James Coats and Catherine Mitchell.2 He married Gloranna McKenzie, daughter of Daniel McKenzie, on 5 November 1832.1 He died on 9 March 1890 at age 81.1
Sir Peter Coats was educated at Paisley Grammar School, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland.1 He was educated at University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 He was co-founder of J. & P. Coats.1 He was invested as a Knight in 1869.1 He was Commissioner of Supply for Ayrshire.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.).1 He was invested as a Fellow, Royal Society of Edinburgh (F.R.S.E.).1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Renfrewshire.1 He lived at Auchendrane, Ayrshire, Scotland.1 He lived at Campagne du Sachel, Mustapha Superieur, Algeria.1
