     George Coats was born on 25 June 1846.1 He was the son of Sir Peter Coats and Gloranna McKenzie.2 He married Mary Thompson Symington, daughter of John McAlister Symington, on 18 August 1868.1 He died on 9 October 1901 at age 55.1
     George Coats lived at Staneley, Renfrewshire, Scotland.1

     Ernest Symington Coats was born on 5 November 1873.1 He was the son of George Coats and Mary Thompson Symington.2 He married Nora Pountney, daughter of Dr. W. Pountney, on 20 April 1898.1 He died on 4 August 1938 at age 64.1
     Ernest Symington Coats was educated at Marlborough College, Marlborough, Wiltshire, England.1 He was educated at Geneva, Switzerland.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.).1

     Ian Pountney Coats was born on 12 January 1901.1 He is the son of Ernest Symington Coats and Nora Pountney.2 He married Hilda May Latta, daughter of James Gilmour Latta, on 11 January 1927.1
     Ian Pountney Coats gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He gained the rank of Honorary Colonel in 1945 in the service of the 2nd Battalion, Renfrewshire Army Cadet Force.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Renfrewshire in 1945.1
