     Sir William Portman Portman was born c in 1610.1 He was the son of Sir John Portman and Anne Gifford.2 He married Elizabeth Colles in 1644.1 He died in September 1645, or 1648 while imprisoned in the Tower of London.1
     He was educated Wadham College Oxford and Middle Temple.1 He was also known as 5th Baronet [U.K. Life Peer].1 He was Sheriff Somerset , Member of Parliament (M.P.) Taunton April-May 1640 and 1640–Feb 1642/3, royalist Civil War (taken prisoner after Battle of Naseby 1645, his estate being sequestrated by Parliamentarians for £20,000 (c £1,350,000 in early–2000s t in 1637.1

     Sir William Portman Portman was born or 1644 circa 1641.1 He was the son of Sir William Portman Portman and Elizabeth Colles.2 He married Elizabeth Cutler.1
     He was educated All Souls College Oxford.1 Married 2nd Elizabeth, dau of Sir Thomas Southcote, of Buckland All Saints, Devon.1 He was also known as 6th and last Baronet [U.K. Life Peer].1 He was Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.) in 1661.1 He was Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) , Member of Parliament (M.P.) Taunton 1661–79 and 1685–90, with Lord Lumley (see SCARBROUGH, E) captured Duke of Monmouth 8 July 1685 following latter's failed uprising, suppressed at the Battle of Sedgmoor 6 July 16 in 1664.1 On 20 March 1689 married 3rd Mary, daughter and heiress of Sir John Holman, but d without issue /90, when the btcy expired Orchard Portman and other estates worth £8,000 (c £600,000 in early–2000s terms) p.a. to his cousin Henry SEYMOUR later PORTMAN.1
