     He was educated at Blundell's School, Tiverton, Devon, EnglandG.1 He was commissioned in 1902, in the service of the Royal Hampshire Regiment.1 He fought in the Boer War in 1902.1 He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Captain in March 1911.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1917.1 He was commander of the 2nd Battalion, Royal Hampshire Regiment in 1917.1 He fought in the Major in 1917.1
