     Clare de Burgh Garratt was born on 11 September 1897 at Rokeby, Blackrock, County Dublin, Ireland.1 She was the daughter of Joseph Henry Garratt and Catherine Frances Rochfort.1 She married Maj.-Gen. Roland Dening, son of Lt.-Gen. Sir Lewis Dening and Beatrice Catherine Scott, on 4 January 1917 at St. Peter and Paul, Wadhurst, Sussex, England.1 She died on 18 November 1992 at age 95 at St. Helena, Cullonpton, Devon, England.1
      From 4 January 1917, her married name became Dening.1 She was decorated with the award of the Kaisar-i-Hind Gold Medal in 1942.1 She was invested as a Dame of Grace, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (D.St.J.) on 1 November 1963.1

Sir Lewis Dening and Beatrice Catherine Scott.1 He married Clare de Burgh Garratt, daughter of Joseph Henry Garratt and Catherine Frances Rochfort, on 4 January 1917 at St. Peter and Paul, Wadhurst, Sussex, England.1 He died on 9 March 1978 at age 89 at Tipton Lodge, Tipton St. John, Devon, England.1

Sir Lewis Dening was born on 23 May 1848 at Pitt House, Ottery St. Mary, Devon, England.1 He was the son of John Dening and Anne Salter.1 He married, firstly, Eliza Janet Eales on 5 September 1872 at St. Andrews, Plymouth, Devon, England.1 He married, secondly, Beatrice Catherine Scott, daughter of Edward John Scott and Helen Robertson, on 30 October 1877 at All Saint's Church, Upper Norwood, Londonn, England.1 He died on 16 February 1911 at age 62.1
     He fought in the Afghan War between 1878 and 1879.1 He fought in the Burma Expedition between 1886 and 1888.1 He fought in the Dongola Expedition in 1896.1 He fought in the North-West Frontier in 1897, and was mentioned in despatches.1 He was decorated with the award of the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.).1 He fought in the Waziristan Campaign between 1901 and 1902.1 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.).1
