     James Sandilands, Master of Torphichen was the son of James Sandilands, 7th Lord Torphichen and Hon. Jean Hume.2 He died on 20 April 1749, from the effect of wounds received, unmarried.1
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 44th Foot.1 He gained the rank of Ensign in the 25th Foot.1 He was styled as Master of Torphichen. He fought in the Battle of Prestonpans on 21 September 1745, where he was wounded and taken prisoner by Jacobites.1

Walter Sandilands, 8th Lord Torphichen1

     Walter Sandilands, 8th Lord Torphichen was born on 16 August 1707.1 He was the son of James Sandilands, 7th Lord Torphichen and Hon. Jean Hume.2 He married Elizabeth Sandilands, daughter of Alexander Sandilands, on 9 June 1757.1 He died on 9 November 1765 at age 58.1
     He was a practising Advocate in 1727.1 He held the office of Burgess of Edinburgh in 1742.1 He held the office of Sheriff Depute of County Edinburgh in 1748.1 He succeeded as the 8th Lord Torphichen, of Saint John of Torphichen, West Lothian [S., 1564] on 10 August 1753.1

     Elizabeth Sandilands was the daughter of Alexander Sandilands.1 She married Walter Sandilands, 8th Lord Torphichen, son of James Sandilands, 7th Lord Torphichen and Hon. Jean Hume, on 9 June 1757.1 She died on 27 September 1779.1

James Sandilands, 9th Lord Torphichen1

     James Sandilands, 9th Lord Torphichen was born on 15 November 1759.1 He was the son of Walter Sandilands, 8th Lord Torphichen and Elizabeth Sandilands.2 He married Anne Inglis, daughter of Sir John Inglis, 4th Bt. and Christian Sinclair, on 6 April 1795.1 He died on 7 June 1815 at age 55, without issue.1
     He succeeded as the 9th Lord Torphichen, of Saint John of Torphichen, West Lothian [S., 1564] on 9 November 1765.1 He gained the rank of 2nd Lieutenan in 1776 in the 21st Foot.1 He fought in the American War of Independence.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1781 in the 24th Foot.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1787 in the Coldstream Guards.1 He was appointed Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1790 and 1802.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1793.1

     He gained the rank of Major in the 21st Regiment.1 He gained the rank of Battle of Dettingen on 27 June 1743.1 He fought in the Battle of Fontenoy in 1745, where he was wounded.1
