Elizabeth Catherine Howard was born on 29 March 1856 at Greystoke Castle, Greystoke, Cumberland, England.2 She was the daughter of Henry Howard and Charlotte Caroline Georgina Long.1 She married Henry Howard Molyneux Herbert, 4th Earl of Carnarvon, son of Henry John George Herbert, 3rd Earl of Carnarvon and Henrietta Anna Howard, on 26 December 1878.1 She died on 1 February 1929 at age 72 at Portofino, Italy.3 She was buried on 8 February 1929 at Highclere Castle, Newbury, Berkshire, England.3
As a result of her marriage, Elizabeth Catherine Howard was styled as Countess of Carnarvon on 26 December 1878. From 26 December 1878, her married name became Herbert.
