     He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England.¹ He gained the rank of Sub-Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.¹ He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Selsdon, of Croydon, Surrey [U.K., 1932] on 7 February 1963.¹ He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Mitchell-Thomson [U.K., 1900] on 7 February 1963.¹ He was local director of Singer and Friedlander in 1972.¹ He was with C T Bowring between 1972 and 1976.¹ He was director of Mildand Bank Group between 1976 and 1990.¹

     Patricia Anne Smith was the daughter of Donald Smith.¹ She married Malcolm McEacharn Mitchell-Thomson, 3rd Baron Selsdon, son of Patrick William Malcolm Mitchell-Thomson, 2nd Baron Selsdon and Phoebette Swithinbank, on 2 June 1965.¹ She died on 20 August 2018.²
     After her marriage, Patricia Anne Smith was styled as Baroness Selsdon on 2 June 1965. From 2 June 1965, her married name became Mitchell-Thomson.¹

     Donald Smith lived at Chase Farm, Haslemere, Surrey, England.¹

     Andrew Thomson was born on 30 April 1809.¹ He was the son of Andrew Thomson and Joan Forrester.¹ He married Janet Mitchell, daughter of William Mitchell and Janet Wingate, on 2 February 1835.¹ He died on 26 October 1871 at age 62.¹
     He was Commissioner of Supply, Clackmannan.¹ He lived at Seafield, Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scotland.¹
