     Sir John Gell, 1st Bt. was born on 22 June 1593.1 He was the son of Thomas Gell and Millicent Sacheverell.3 He married, secondly, Mary Radcliffe, daughter of Sir Francis Radcliffe.3 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Willoughby, daughter of Sir Percival Willoughby and Bridget Willoughby, in 1612.3 He died on 26 October 1671 at age 78.1
     He gained the title of 1st Baronet Gell. He held the office of Sheriff of Derbyshire in 1635.1
