     George Samuel Knatchbull Young, Baron Young of Cookham was born on 16 July 1941.2 He is the son of Sir George Peregrine Young, 5th Bt. and Elisabeth Knatchbull-Hugessen.1 He married Aurelia Nemon, daughter of Oscar Nemon and Patrica Frances Mary Fieldeb Villiers-Stuart, on 11 July 1964.2
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.2 He gained the title of 6th Baronet Young, of Formosa Place, Berkshire in 1960. He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2 He was an economist with NEDC in 1966.2 He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1967 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He held the office of Member of the Lambeth City Council between 1968 and 1971. He graduated from Surrey University, Surrey, EnglandG, in 1969 with a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) He wrote the book Accommodation Services in the UK, published 1970.2 He held the office of Member of the Greater London Council between 1970 and 1973, for Ealing. He wrote the book Tourism, Blessing or Blight?, published 1973.
