     Mary McBean Bell-Irving was born in 1896.1 She was the daughter of Henry Ogle Bell-Irving and Marie Isabel del Carmen Beattie.1 She married W/Cdr. Hugh Anselm Boulton Robb, son of John Montagu Caesar Robb and Florence Boughton, in 1924.1 She died in 1971.1
     From 1924, her married name became Robb.1

Captain John B. Robb1

     Captain John B. Robb was born in 1798 at Banff, Banff-shire, Scotland.1 He was the son of John Robb.1 He married Mary-Anne Boulton, daughter of Matthew Robinson Boulton and Mary-Anne Wilkinson, in 1856.1 He died in 1859.1
     He was commissioned in 1812 with the rank of Midshipman, in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He fought in the Napoleonic Wars.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.1 He fought in the Crimean War in 1854.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the The Naval Chronicle records that: “… while attached to the Naiad 46, Capt. Hon. Robt. Cavendish Spencer, he contributed in her boats to the brilliant destruction, on the night of 23 May, 1824, of a 16-gun brig moored in a position of extraordinary strength alongside the walls of the fortress of Bona, in which was a garrison of about 400 men, who from cannon and musket kept up a tremendous fire almost perpendicularly on the deck.” The Chronicle goes on to say that: “Being made Lieutenant, 16 March, 1827, into the Asia 84, bearing the flag of Sir Edward Codrington in the Mediterranean, he commanded a tender belonging to that ship (the Hind cutter) at the battle of Navarin, where the services he rendered had the effect of procuring him a second promotal commission dated 1 May, 1829.” From 24 Oct. 1836 until posted, on his return to England, 22 Feb. 1841, he commanded the Satellite 18, on the North America and West India station. From 12 December 1845 he was employed in the Channel and Mediterranean in the Gladiator steam-vessel of 430-horse power. In February 1845 Capt. Robb was sent out, in conjunction with Capts. Henry John Codrington and James. Crawford Caffin, in the Black Eagle, on an experimental cruize with the royal steam-yacht Victoria and Albert and Rattler (screw) steamer, for the purpose of reporting on the capabilities of those vessels. Capt. Robb fitted out and then commanded the CAESAR in the Crimean War, including at the Siege of Sevastopol in 1854.1

     Mary-Anne Boulton was born in 1828.1 She was the daughter of Matthew Robinson Boulton and Mary-Anne Wilkinson.1 She married Captain John B. Robb, son of John Robb, in 1856.1 She died in 1912.1
     She was a botanist, horticulturalist and botanical collector. The perennial plant Euphorbia amygdaloides var. robbiae, otherwise known as “Mrs Robb’s Bonnet” is named in her honour.1 From 1856, her married name became Robb.1
