     Sir Malcolm Ian Sinclair, 20th Earl of Caithness was born on 3 November 1948.1 He is the son of Sir James Roderick Sinclair, 19th Earl of Caithness and Madeleine Gabrielle de Pury.2 He married, firstly, Diana Caroline Coke, daughter of Major Richard Lovel Coke and Molly Fletcher, on 9 January 1975.1 He married, secondly, Leila Cassel Jenkins, daughter of Theodore Locke Jenkins, in November 2004.3
     Sir Malcolm Ian Sinclair, 20th Earl of Caithness was educated at Marlborough College, Marlborough, Wiltshire, England.1 He held the position of Chief of the Name and Arms of Sinclair in 1965.1 He succeeded to the title of 15th Baronet Sinclair, of Canisbay, co. Caithness [N.S., 1631] on 8 May 1965.1 He succeeded to the title of 20th Earl of Caithness [S., 1455] on 8 May 1965.1 He succeeded to the title of 20th Lord Berriedale [S., 1449] on 8 May 1965.1 He was educated at Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, England.1 He was an estate agent, with Savill's and then Brown and Mumford between 1972 and 1980.1 He was invested as a Fellow, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (F.R.I.C.S.).1 He held the office of Lord-in-Waiting between 1984 and 1985.1 He held the office of Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Transport between 1985 and 1986.1 He held the office of Minister of State, Home Office between 1986 and 1988.1 He held the office of Minister of State, Department for Environment between 1988 and 1989.1 He held the office of Minister of State, H.M. Treasury between 1989 and 1990.1 He held the office of Paymaster-General between 1989 and 1990.1 He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1990.1 He held the office of Minister of State, Foreign and Colonial Office between 1990 and 1992.1 He held the office of Minister of State, Department for Transport between 1992 and 1994.1 He held the office of Elected Member of the House of Lords in 1999.1
