     James Roderick Sinclair, 19th Earl of Caithness was born on 29 September 1906.1 He was the son of Rev. Hon. Charles Augustus Sinclair and Mary Ann Harman.2 He married, firstly, Grizel Margaret Miller-Cunningham, daughter of Sir George Miller-Cunningham, on 29 April 1933.1 He married, secondly, Madeleine Gabrielle de Pury, daughter of Herman Edward de Pury, on 17 August 1946.3 He died in 1965.
     James Roderick Sinclair, 19th Earl of Caithness was educated at Marlborough College, Marlborough, Wiltshire, England.1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He was decorated with the award of Croix de Guerre (avec palme, Belgian).1 He was decorated with the award of Legion of Honour.1 He was decorated with the award of Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.).1 He was invested as a Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.).1 He was invested as a Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.).1 He succeeded to the title of 19th Earl of Caithness [S., 1455] on 25 March 1947.1 He succeeded to the title of 14th Baronet Sinclair, of Canisbay, co. Hon. Charles Augustus Sinclair and Mary Ann Harman, on 17 August 1946.1 She married, thirdly, David Frederick Ewen in 1977.1 She died in 1990.1
     Madeleine Gabrielle de Pury usually went by her middle name of Gabrielle.1 From before 1946, her married name became Ormerod.1 Her married name became Sinclair. As a result of her marriage, Madeleine Gabrielle de Pury was styled as Countess of Caithness on 25 March 1947. From 1977, her married name became Ewen.1
