     Major Hon. Alfred Henry Maitland was born on 9 December 1872. He was the son of Frederick Henry Maitland, 13th Earl of Lauderdale and Charlotte Sarah Sleigh. He married Edith Scobell, daughter of Sanford George Treweeke Scobell, on 5 January 1905. He died in September 1914 at age 41, killed in action.
     Major Hon. Alfred Henry Maitland fought in the First World War.

     Edith Scobell is the daughter of Sanford George Treweeke Scobell. She married Major Hon. Alfred Henry Maitland, son of Frederick Henry Maitland, 13th Earl of Lauderdale and Charlotte Sarah Sleigh, on 5 January 1905.
     Her married name became Maitland.
