     Gerard Vernon Wallop, 9th Earl of Portsmouth was born on 16 May 1898. He was the son of Oliver Henry Wallop, 8th Earl of Portsmouth and Marguerite Walker.1 He married, firstly, Mary Lawrence Post, daughter of Waldren Kintzing Post, on 31 July 1920. He and Mary Lawrence Post were divorced in 1936. He married, secondly, Bridget Cory Croban, daughter of Captain Patrick Bermingham Croban, on 14 August 1936. He died in 1984.
     He gained the title of 9th Earl of Portsmouth.

He married, firstly, Maureen Stanley, daughter of Lt.-Col. Kenneth Bridges Stanley, on 26 June 1952. He and Maureen Stanley were divorced in 1954. He married, secondly, Ruth Violet Sladen, daughter of Gerald Carew Sladen, in 1954. He married, thirdly, Julia Ogden, daughter of William Graeme Ogden, on 26 March 1974.1 He died in 1984.
     He was styled as Viscount Lymington.
