She married, firstly, Wilhelm Josef Oskar Friedrich Leopold Maria Graf zu Stolberg-Stolberg on 20 August 1961 in a civil marriage. She married, secondly, Jan ter Meer on 1 September 1980. She and Jan ter Meer were divorced in 1986. Irene and Wilhelm Josef Oskar Friedrich Leopold Maria were remarried in a religious ceremony on 28 August 1961.
     From 28 August 1961, her married name became zu Stolberg-Stolberg. Her married name became ter Meer.
