     Melicent Lucy Hack was the daughter of Edward Louis Hack and Lucy Harriet Aylmer.1 She married, secondly, Raymond Duval de Maratray.2 She married, firstly, Charles McCarthy Spears, son of Alexander Spears and Victoria Dawes Newman, on 18 May 1885.1,2 She died on 15 November 1927.2
     Her married name became Duval de Maratray.2 From 18 May 1885, her married name became Spears.1

     Charles McCarthy Spears was born on 9 July 1858.2 He was the son of Alexander Spears and Victoria Dawes Newman.2 He married Melicent Lucy Hack, daughter of Edward Louis Hack and Lucy Harriet Aylmer, on 18 May 1885.1,2 He died on 29 November 1912 at age 54.2

     Maj.-Gen. Sir Edward Louis Spears, 1st Bt. was born on 7 August 1886.2 He was the son of Charles McCarthy Spears and Melicent Lucy Hack.1 He married, firstly, Mary Borden, daughter of William Borden, in January 1918.2 He married, secondly, Nancy Maurice, daughter of Maj.-Gen. Sir Frederick Barton Maurice and Margaret Helen Marsh, on 19 December 1969 at St. Paul's Church, Knightsbridge, London, England.2 He died on 27 January 1974 at age 87.2
     He was commissioned in 1903 with the rank of officer, in the service of the Kildare Regiment.3 He gained the rank of Temporary Captain in 1914.3 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918, where he was mentioned in dispatches five times and was wounded four times.3 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1915.1 He gained the rank of Brevet Major in 1916.3 He gained the rank of Temporary Brigadier-General in 1917.3 He was head of the British Military Mission to Paris between 1917 and 1920.2 He gained the rank of Brevet Lietuenant-Colonel in 1918.3 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1919.3 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1921.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Loughborough between 1922 and 1924.3 He wrote the book Liaison, 1914, published 1931.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Carlisle between 1931 and 1945.3 He wrote the book Prelude to victory, published 1939.3 He gained the rank of Acting Major-General in 1940.3 He was head of the British Mission to de Gaulle in 1940.3 He was head of the Spears Mission between 1940 and 1944.3 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) in 1942.1 He held the office of First Minister to the Republics of Syria and Lebanon between 1942 and 1944.3 He fought in the Second World War.2 He was created 1st Baronet Spears, of Warfield, co. Berks [U.K.] on 30 June 1953.3 He wrote the book Assignment to catastrophe, published 1954.3 He was chairman of Ashanti Gold Corporation.2 He wrote the book Two men who save France - Pétain and de Gaulle, published 1967.3 He wrote the book The picnic basket, published 1968.3 On his death his baronetcy became extinct.3

     Charlotte Margaret Hendrick was the daughter of Hans Hendrick and Mary Anne Borrowes.1 She married Michael Aylmer, son of John Aylmer and Margaret Susan Aylmer, in February 1853.1 She died in November 1893.1
     From February 1853, her married name became Aylmer.1
