     Sir Henry Ashley Clarke was born on 26 June 1903.1 He is the son of Henry Hugh Rose Clarke and Rachel Hill Duncan.1 He married, firstly, Virginia Bell, daughter of Edward Bell and Bertha Etelka Surtees, on 15 June 1937.1 He and Virginia Bell were divorced in 1960.1 He married, secondly, Frances Molyneux, daughter of John Molyneux, in August 1962.1
     Sir Henry Ashley Clarke usually went by his middle name of Ashley.1 He was educated at Repton School, Repton, Derbyshire, EnglandG.1 He was with the Diplomatic Service in 1925.1 He was First Secretary to Tokyo between 1934 and 1938.1 He was Minister to Lisbon between 1944 and 1946.1 He was Minister to Paris between 1946 and 1949.1 He held the office of Deputy Under-Scretary of State, Foreign Office between 1950 and 1953.1 He graduated from Pembroke College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1951 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1952.1 He held the office of Amabassador to Italy between 1952 and 1962.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Political Science by Genoa, ItalyG, in 1956.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.) in 1961.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1962.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Academy of Music (F.R.A.M.) in 1970.1 He was awarded the Knight Grand Cross, Order of Merit of Italy.1 He lived in 1976 at Dorsoduro 1113, Venice, ItalyG.1

     Virginia Bell was born on 9 January 1917 at London, England.2 She was the daughter of Edward Bell and Bertha Etelka Surtees.1,2 She married Sir Henry Ashley Clarke, son of Henry Hugh Rose Clarke and Rachel Hill Duncan, on 15 June 1937.1 She and Sir Henry Ashley Clarke were divorced in 1960.1 She died on 22 September 2017 at age 100.2
     From 15 June 1937, her married name became Clarke.1

Sir Herbert Conyers Surtees and Madeleine Augusta Crabb, on 16 February 1914 at London, England.2 He died on 28 October 1924 at age 42 at Beijing, China.2
     He lived at New York, U.S.A.G.1
