     Aileen Coates was born circa 1916.2 She was the daughter of Captain Harry Coates and Ethel Rose Gray Edwards.3,4 She married, firstly, Lt.-Cdr. Hon. John David Hotham, son of Henry Edward Hotham and Ethel Lindsay Wood, on 11 April 1939.1 She married, secondly, Lt.-Cdr. Colin Edward Hugh Smith, son of Rear-Admiral Humphrey Hugh Smith and Blanche Mary Scott-Murray, in 1969.2 She died on 1 November 2009.2
     From 11 April 1939, her married name became Hotham. From 1969, her married name became Hugh Smith.2 She lived in 2003 at 31 Brynmaer Road, London, EnglandG.1
