     Maj.-Gen. William John Napier was born on 10 November 1863.1 He was the son of Hon. William Napier and Louisa May Lloyd.2 He married Maud Denison Gooch Holbrook, daughter of Colonel Edward Nicol William Holbrook, on 4 September 1889.1 He died on 18 November 1925 at age 62.1
     He fought in the Boer War.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded and was mentioned in despatches.1 He was Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1916.1 He was Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1917.1 He was awarded the Order of the Crown of Italy.1 He was awarded the Officier, Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur.1 He gained the rank of Major-General in the Royal Artillery.1
