     George Richard James Hennessy, 1st Baron Windlesham was born on 23 March 1877.1 He was the son of Richard Hennessy and Martha Lucy Hennessy.2 He married Ethel Mary Wynter, daughter of Charles Reginald Wynter, on 14 December 1898.1 He died on 8 October 1953 at age 76.1
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Boer War.2 He gained the rank of Major in the 3rd Batttalion, Cheshire Regiment.2 He held the office of High Sheriff of Hampshire between 1910 and 1911.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Unionist) for Winchester between 1910 and 1931.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches twice.2 He was Aide-de-Camp to GOC, 8th Division between 1917 and 1919.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1919.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Hampshire.1 He held the office of Vice-Chamberlain of the Household between 1925 and 1927.1 He was created 1st Baronet Hennessy, of Windlesham, co. Surrey [U.K.] on 24 January 1927.1 He held the office of Treasurer of HM Household between 1928 and 1929.2 He held the office of Treasurer of HM Household between September 1931 and November 1931.1 He was created 1st Baron Windlesham, of Windlesham, co. Surrey [U.K.] on 22 February 1937.1
