     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Second World War, in Italy, where he was mentioned in dispatches.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Artillery (Territorial Army.)1 He was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.) in 1944.1
