     Maj.-Gen. Sir Harry St. George Ord was born on 4 August 1819 at North Cray, Kent, England.1 He was the son of Captain Harry Gough Ord and Louisa Latham.2 He married Julia Graham Carpenter, daughter of Admiral James Carpenter, in 1846.1 He died on 20 August 1885 at age 66 at Homburg, Germany.1
     He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, Kent, England.1 He fought in the Crimean War in 1854, in the Baltic.1 He held the office of Commissioner of the Gold Coast between 1855 and 1856.1 He held the office of Governor of Dominica between 1857 and 1861.1 He held the office of Governor of Bermuda between 1861 and 1864.1 He held the office of Governor of the Straits Settlements between 1867 and 1873.1 He held the office of Governor of Western Australia between 1867 and 1873.1
