     He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Commander in the Royal Navy.¹

     Maria Jane Speed Croft was born on 12 August 1843.¹ She was the daughter of William Croft and Mary Donovan Ross.¹ She married Venerable Ferrar Herbert Hughes Sharpe, son of Reverend Thomas Cleland Sharpe and Jane Gray, on 16 November 1861 at St. Mary's Church, Rural Hill, Jamaica.¹ She died on 1 October 1864 at age 21 at Old Harbour, Jamaica.¹
     From 16 November 1861, her married name became Sharpe.¹

     Mary Jane Gray Sharpe was born on 8 February 1863 at Mannings, Sav-la-mar, Jamaica.¹ She was the daughter of Venerable Ferrar Herbert Hughes Sharpe and Maria Jane Speed Croft.¹
