     He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) during the reign of King Charles II and King James II.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Ballyshannon between 1661 and 1692.1 He held the office of Lieutenant of County Down.1 He held the office of Lieutenant of County Antrim.1 He had one other son by his second wife.1
