Cuthbert Cuninghame, 3rd Earl of Glencairn was the son of Robert Cuninghame, 2nd Earl of Glencairn and Christian Lindsay.2 A contract for the marriage of Cuthbert Cuninghame, 3rd Earl of Glencairn and Lady Marion Douglas was signed on 24 June 1492.1 He died from 23 May 1540 to May 1541.3
Cuthbert Cuninghame, 3rd Earl of Glencairn succeeded to the title of 3rd Lord Kilmaurs [S., 1464] circa 1490.3 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Earl of Glencairn [S., 1488] on 13 August 1503, when his title was apparently recognised.1 On 24 July 1511 he was granted a charter of the Earldom and Barony of Glencairn.3 On 4 September 1526 he made an abortive attempt to wrest custody of King James V from the Douglas faction and was beaten by them at encounter of Linlithgow.3
