     Elizabeth Hamilton was born between 1442 and 1443. She was the daughter of James Hamilton, 1st Lord Hamilton and Lady Eupheme Graham.1 She married, firstly, David Lindsay, 1st Duke of Montrose, son of Alexander Lindsay, 4th Earl of Crawford and Margaret Dunbar, in 1459.1 She and David Lindsay, 1st Duke of Montrose were divorced before 1484.1 She married, secondly, John Forrester after 1485.1 She and John Forrester were divorced before 1508.1 She died after 1517.1
     As a result of her marriage, Elizabeth Hamilton was styled as Countess of Crawford in 1459. From 1459, her married name became Lindsay.1 Her last will was dated 11 March 1516/17.2

     David Lindsay, 1st Duke of Montrose was born in 1440.3 He was the son of Alexander Lindsay, 4th Earl of Crawford and Margaret Dunbar.2 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Hamilton, daughter of James Hamilton, 1st Lord Hamilton and Lady Eupheme Graham, in 1459.1 He and Elizabeth Hamilton were divorced before 1484.1 He married, secondly, Margaret Carmichael before 27 September 1484.4 He died on 25 December 1495 at Finhaven Castle, Angus, Scotland.4 He was buried at Dundee, Angus, Scotland.4
     David Lindsay, 1st Duke of Montrose succeeded to the title of 5th Earl of Crawford [S., 1398] in September 1453.2 He held the office of Sheriff of Forfarshire in October 1466.2 He held the office of Keeper of Berwick between 1473 and 1476.2 On 9 March 1472/73 he was granted the Lordships of Brechin and Navar for life.2 He held the office of High Admiral of Scotland in May 1476.2 He held the office of Master of the Household in 1480.5 He held the office of Great Lord Chamberlain [Scotland] before 1483.5 He held the office of Joint High Justiciary of the North in 1487.5 He was created 1st Duke of Montrose [Scotland] on 18 May 1488.5 He fought in the Battle of Sauchieburn on 9 June 1488, where he distinguished himself on the side of King James III.6 On 17 October 1488 his Dukedom was forfeited by the Rescissory Act.6 On 19 September 1489 he was granted a new patent for the Dukedom of Montrose. However, the Rescissory Act itself was rescinded in March 1503/4, so it has been argued that the first creation is in effect the correct one.6 He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in February 1489/90.5

     Robert Sempill, Master of Sempill was the son of Robert Sempill, 3rd Lord Sempill and Isabel Hamilton.1 He married Elizabeth Hamilton, daughter of James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Arran, before 27 May 1543.2 He married Barbara Preston, daughter of Archibald Preston, before 30 April 1569.3 He died before 16 December 1569.3
     Robert Sempill, Master of Sempill was styled as Master of Sempill.2 He murdered William Crichton, 5th Lord Crichton of Sanquhar on 11 June 1550 at the house of Governor Arran, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland, stabbed to death in a quarrel by the 3rd Lord Semphill.4
