Sir David Haven Barran was born on 23 May 1912.1 He was the son of Sir John Nicholson Barran, 2nd Bt. and Alice Margarita Parks.1,2 He married Jane Lechmere Macaskie, daughter of Nicholas Lechmere Cunningham Macaskie, on 29 March 1944.1 He died on 1 June 2002 at age 90.1
Sir David Haven Barran was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1934 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He was chairman of Midland Bank.3 He was president of the Asiatic Petroleum Company between 1958 and 1961 at New York, U.S.A..1 He was managing director of the Royal Dutch Shell Group between 1961 and 1972.1 He was a director of Shell Transport and Trading Company Ltd between 1961 and 1983.1 He was a director of Marine Midland Bank.1 He was a director of Drayton Corporation and Dryaton Group.1 He was a director of Rheem Manufacturing Company.1 He was chairman of Shell Oil Company between 1970 and 1972.1 He was invested as a Knight in 1971.1 He was a director of Glaxo Holdings in 1973.1 He was a director of International Marine Banking Company in 1973.1 He was a director of BICC in 1973.1 He was a director of Samuel Montagu in 1974.1 He was a director of British Leyland in 1975.1 He was a director of Standard Chartered Bank in 1977.1 He was decorated with the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1980.1
