     Sir Jonathan Roger Backhouse, 4th Bt. was born on 30 December 1939.1 He was the son of Major Sir John Edmund Backhouse, 3rd Bt. and Jean Marie Frances Hume-Gore.1,2 He married Sarah Ann Stott, daughter of James Stott, on 11 July 1997.1 He died on 15 November 2007 at age 67.3
     He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Backhouse, of Uplands [U.K., 1901] on 29 August 1944.1 He was educated at Ampleforth College, Ampleforth, Yorkshire, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Brasenose College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He was managing director of W.      Major Sir John Edmund Backhouse, 3rd Bt. was born on 30 April 1909.1 He was the son of Admiral Sir Roger Roland Charles Backhouse and Dora Louise Findlay.1 He married Jean Marie Frances Hume-Gore, daughter of Lt.-Col. Gavin Robert Vernon Hume-Gore, on 3 June 1937.2 He died on 29 August 1944 at age 35 at Normandy, FranceG, from wounds received in action.1
     He fought in the Second World War.2 He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Artillery.2 He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Backhouse, of Uplands [U.K., 1901] on 8 January 1944.1

     Admiral Sir Roger Roland Charles Backhouse was born on 24 November 1878.1 He was the son of Sir Jonathan Edmund Backhouse, 1st Bt. and Florence Salusbury-Trelawny.1 He married Dora Louise Findlay, daughter of John Ritchie Findlay and Susan Leslie, on 4 June 1907.1 He died on 15 July 1939 at age 60.1
     He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1917.1 He held the office of Third Sea Lord of the Admiralty between 1928 and 1932.1 He held the office of Controller of the Navy between 1928 and 1932.1 He was Vice-Admiral of the First Battle Squadron, Mediterranean Fleet between 1932 and 1934.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1933.1 He gained the rank of Admiral of the Fleet in 1934.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the Home Fleet between 1935 and 1938.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.) in 1937.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1938.1 He held the office of First and Principal Naval Advisor to H.M.
