     Virginia Cowles was born on 24 August 1910.¹ She was the daughter of Dr. Edward Spencer Cowles and Florence Wolcott Jacquith.³ She married Aidan Merivale Crawley, son of Reverend Arthur Stafford Crawley, in 1945. She died on 16 September 1983 at age 73 at France, as the result of a road accident.¹
     From 1945, her married name became Crawley.¹ She was a historian.¹ She was invested as a Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1947.¹

     Julian Ayer was the son of Sir Alfred Jules Ayer.¹ He married Harriet Crawley, daughter of Aidan Merivale Crawley and Virginia Cowles, circa 2001.¹ He died on 26 December 2004 at Galle, killed in the Asian Tsunami.¹
