Lt.-Col. Charles Robert Bathurst was born on 28 July 1879.1 He was the son of Reverend William Addington Bathurst and Harriet Jesse Bell.1 He married Felicite Esther Theophilia Metcalfe, daughter of Charles Theophilus Metcalfe, on 5 February 1916.1 He died on 14 February 1967 at age 87.1

Charles Robert Bathurst was educated at St. Lawrence College, Ramsgate, Kent, England.1 He graduated from Emmanuel College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.).1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches and was wounded.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the 3rd Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment.1
