     Maj.-Gen. Merton Beckwith-Smith was born on 11 July 1890 at 24 Walton Street, Chelsea, London, England.2 He was the son of Beckwith Beckwith-Smith and Georgina Butler Moore.2 He married Honor Dorothy Leigh, daughter of John Blundell Leigh and Lady Rose Nevill, on 14 March 1918.1 He died on 11 November 1942 at age 52 at POW camp, Karenko, Taiwan.2
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.2 He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, Master of Arts (M.A.)2,1 He fought in the First World War.2 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1914.2 He gained the rank of Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel.2 He gained the rank of Major in the Coldstream Guards.2 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)1 He lived at Aberarder, Strathnairn, Inverness-shire, ScotlandG.1 He fought in the Second World War, and was captured as a POW in Singapore.2 He was commander of the 1st Guards Brigade between 1939 and 1940.2 He lived at The Manor House, Stratton Audley, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.2 He was awarded the Croix de Guerre French.2 He was commander of the 18th Division in 1942.2

     Honor Dorothy Leigh was born in 1892.1 She was the daughter of John Blundell Leigh and Lady Rose Nevill.1 She married Maj.-Gen. Merton Beckwith-Smith, son of Beckwith Beckwith-Smith and Georgina Butler Moore, on 14 March 1918.1 She died on 25 December 1982.2
     From 14 March 1918, her married name became Beckwith-Smith.1 She was appointed Commander, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (C.St.J.)1 She was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1945.1

     Susan Elaine Parkes is the daughter of Sidney Edward Parkes.1 She married John Moore Beckwith-Smith, son of Maj.-Gen. Merton Beckwith-Smith and Honor Dorothy Leigh, on 30 September 1954.
     From 30 September 1954, her married name became Beckwith-Smith.1
