     Vice-Admiral Charles Arbuthnot Christian gained the rank of Sub-Lieutenant in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant on 3 April 1886.1 He gained the rank of Commander on 31 December 1898.1 He gained the rank of Captain on 30 June 1905.1 He was invested as a Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1912.2 He was Assistant Director of Transports, Admiralty in 1912.1
