     Sir Benjamin Collins Brodie, 2nd Bt. was born on 5 February 1817.1 He was the son of Sir Benjamin Collins Brodie, 1st Bt. and Anne Sellon.1 He married Philothea Margaret Thompson, daughter of John Vincent Thompson, on 11 April 1848. He died on 24 November 1880 at age 63.1
     Sir Benjamin Collins Brodie, 2nd Bt. was educated at Harrow School, Harrow on the Hill, London, England.1 He graduated from Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.).1 He was Waynflete Professor of Chemistry at Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baronet Brodie, of Boxford, co. Suffolk [U.K., 1834] on 19 October 1862.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Laws (D.C.L.) by Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He was invested as a Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.).1
