     Colonel Richard Brownlow Cust was born on 22 April 1888.1 He was the son of Reverend William Arthur Cust and Lucy Caroline Jervois.1 He married Gertrude Patricia Zoë Birch, daughter of Francis Julian Laurence Birch, on 27 September 1928.1 He died on 6 February 1958 at age 69.1
     Colonel Richard Brownlow Cust was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded and mentioned in despatches.1 He was decorated with the Military Cross (M.C.).1 He was decorated with the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1918.1 He was Temporary Brigadier and commanding officer of the 35th AA Group Territorial Army in 1938.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the service of the Royal Artillery.1 He was invested as a Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1942.1

     Gertrude Patricia Zoë Birch was the daughter of Francis Julian Laurence Birch. She married Colonel Richard Brownlow Cust, son of Reverend William Arthur Cust and Lucy Caroline Jervois, on 27 September 1928.1 She died in 1993.1
     From 27 September 1928, her married name became Cust.
