Sir George Watkin James Eben Erskine was born on 23 August 1899.1 He was the son of Maj.-Gen. George Elphinstone Erskine and Eva Constance Sarah Edwards.2 He married Ruby De La Rue, daughter of Sir Evelyn Andros De La Rue, 2nd Bt., on 30 January 1930.1 He died on 29 August 1965 at age 66.1
Sir George Watkin James Eben Erskine fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches three times.2 He was decorated with the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1942.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1943.1 He was decorated with the Médaille Militaire (Belgian).2 He was decorated with the Grand Cross, Order of Leopold II of Belgium.2 He was decorated with the Commander, U.S. Legion of Merit.2 He was decorated with the Order du Chêne (Luxemburg).2 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) in 1950.1 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1952.1 He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1955.1 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp General to HM Queen Elizabeth II between 1955 and 1965.1 He held the office of Lieutenant-Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Jersey between 1958 and 1964.2 He was invested as a Knight, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.St.J.) in 1959.2
