Lewis Stuyvesant Chanler was born in 1869.1 He was the son of John Winthrop Chanler and Margaret Astor Ward.1 He married, firstly, Alice Chamberlain in 1890.1 He married, secondly, Julie Benkard in 1921.1 He died in 1942.1
He graduated from Columbia University, New York City, New York, U.S.A., in 1891 with a Bachelor of Law (LL.B.).1 He was educated in 1894 at Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.1 He was a lawyer at New York City, New York, U.S.A..1 He held the office of Lieutenant-Governor of New York between 1907 and 1908.1 In 1908 he ran for Governor of New York, byt was opposed by Hearst.1 He and his second wife joined the Bahá'i movement, but was eventually expelled after challenging the movement.1
