     John Cairnis of Cults was the son of William Cairnis of Orchardton and Margaret Agnew. He married Margaret McCulloch, daughter of Alexander McCulloch of Killaster, in 1555.1 He died in 1568.1
     John Cairnis of Cults held the office of Esquire to Mary, Queen of Scots.1
