     Sydney Elizabeth Courtauld was born on 24 August 1902.3 She was the daughter of Samuel Courtauld.1 She married Richard Austen Butler, Baron Butler of Saffron Walden, son of Sir Montagu Sherard Dawes Butler and Anne Gertrude Smith, in April 1926. She died in 1954.4
     From April 1926, her married name became Butler.1
