Richard Butler, Baron Butler of Saffron Walden 2
     Richard Austen Butler, Baron Butler of Saffron Walden was born on 9 December 1902 at Attock Serai, Punjab, India.3 He was the son of Sir Montagu Sherard Dawes Butler and Anne Gertrude Smith.3 He married, firstly, Sydney Elizabeth Courtauld, daughter of Samuel Courtauld, in April 1926. He married, secondly, Mollie Montgomerie, daughter of Frank Douglas Montgomerie, in October 1959.4 He died on 8 March 1982 at age 79.5
     Richard Austen Butler, Baron Butler of Saffron Walden was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1939.1 He was invested as a Companion of Honour (C.H.) in 1954.1 He was created Baron Butler of Saffron Walden, of Halstead in the County of Essex [U.K. Life Peer] on 19 February 1965.1 He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) in 1971.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.3
