     John Lindsay of Balcarres, Lord Menmuir was born in 1552.2 He was the son of David Lindsay, 9th Earl of Crawford and Katherine Campbell.3,4 He married, firstly, Marion Guthrie, daughter of Alexander Guthrie and Janet Henderson, on 29 November 1581.5 He married, secondly, Janet Lauder, daughter of Robert Lauder of the Bass and Alison Cranstoun, on 7 February 1590.1 He died on 3 September 1598 at Balcarres, Fife, Scotland.1,2
     He held the office of Lord of Session [Scotland]. He was styled as Lord Menmuir [Scottish Law Lord].5 He lived at Balcarres, Fife, ScotlandG.5 He held the office of Privy Seal [Scotland] in 1596.5 He held the office of Secretary of State [Scotland] between 1596 and 1598.5

Marion Guthrie1

     Marion Guthrie was the daughter of Alexander Guthrie and Janet Henderson.1 She married, firstly, David Borthwick before 1581.1 She married, secondly, John Lindsay of Balcarres, Lord Menmuir, son of David Lindsay, 9th Earl of Crawford and Katherine Campbell, on 29 November 1581.2 She died after 16 July 1592.3
     From before 1581, her married name became Borthwick.1 Her married name became Lindsay.

     Janet Lauder was the daughter of Robert Lauder of the Bass and Alison Cranstoun.3,4 She married, firstly, Sir James Forrester of Corstorphine, son of James Forrester of Corstorphine and Agnes Forrester.1 She married, secondly, John Campbell, 3rd of Cawdor, son of Archibald Campbell, 2nd of Cawdor and Isobel Grant.3 She married, thirdly, John Lindsay of Balcarres, Lord Menmuir, son of David Lindsay, 9th Earl of Crawford and Katherine Campbell, on 7 February 1590.1 She married, fourthly, Robert Gray circa 1599.2 She died before 27 March 1621.2
     Her married name became Campbell.3 Her married name became Forrester.1 She was also known as Jean.3 Her married name became Lindsay. From circa 1599, her married name became Gray.2

Sir David Lindsay, 1st Lord Lindsay of Balcarres1

     Sir David Lindsay, 1st Lord Lindsay of Balcarres was baptised on 17 March 1587 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.2 He was the son of John Lindsay of Balcarres, Lord Menmuir and Marion Guthrie.1,2 He married Lady Sophia Seton, daughter of Alexander Seton, 1st Earl of Dunfermline and Lilias Drummond, on 16 February 1611/12 at Dunfermline, Fife, ScotlandG.2 He died in March 1641/42.2,3 He was buried at Chapel, Balcarres, Fife, ScotlandG.2
     He was appointed Knight in 1612.2 He was created 1st Lord Lindsay of Balcarres [Scotland] on 27 June 1633, with a special remainder to his heirs male bearing the name Lindsay.1 He steadfastly adherred to the King.2 He lived at Balcarres, Fife, ScotlandG.1

     Sir John Lindsay of Woodhead was the son of David Lindsay, 10th Earl of Crawford and Margaret Bethune.1 He married Catherine Lindsay, daughter of John Lindsay of Balcarres, Lord Menmuir and Marion Guthrie, after 17 December 1602.1 He died on 6 January 1609.1
     He was appointed Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.)1 He lived at Ballinschoe, Angus, ScotlandG.1

     Catherine Lindsay was baptised on 3 November 1583.2 She was the daughter of John Lindsay of Balcarres, Lord Menmuir and Marion Guthrie.1 She married, firstly, Sir John Lindsay of Woodhead, son of David Lindsay, 10th Earl of Crawford and Margaret Bethune, after 17 December 1602.1 She married, secondly, John Brown of Fordell, son of John Brown of Fordell and Elizabeth Adamson, after 30 September 1615.1
     From after 30 September 1615, her married name became Brown.1
