Ambrose Boxwell was born on 9 November 1876.4 He was the son of John Boxwell and Elizabeth Honoria Frances Stokes.2,3 He married Hilda Louisa Hamilton Caulfeild, daughter of Colonel Robert Caulfeild and Caroline Henriette Magill, on 23 August 1920.1 He died in January 1959 at age 82, without issue.4
     Lt.-Col. Ambrose Boxwell was educated at Shrewsbury School, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England.1 He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.4 He fought in the Boer War between 1901 and 1902, with the Royal Warwickshire Fusiliers.4 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.4 He was Military Governor of Basrah between 1915 and 1916.4 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.) in 1916.4 He retired from the military in 1927, with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, late of the Indian Army.4
