     James Lewes Thomas was born on 20 March 1862.2 He was the son of James Lewes Thomas and Elizabeth Anne Goss.2 He married Anne Louisa Purdon, daughter of Commander George Frederick Robert Purdon and Annie Rachel Caulfeild, on 28 October 1898.2 He died on 13 August 1910 at age 48.2
     He graduated from Pembroke College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.).2 He lived at Caeglas, Llandilo, Carmarthenshire, Wales.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.).2

     He held the office of Sheriff of Nottinghamshire.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Derbyshire.1 He lived at Rampton, Nottinghamshire, England.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Nottinghamshire between 1450 and 1472.1
